While caring for her ailing mother, she struggled to find the right information for the task. The struggle led to the creation of Parentcare 101 and her latest work--Caring for a Distant Parent: CareTips from Daughters and Sons Who’ve Cared, a collection of advice, anecdotes and resources to help caregivers balance their lives. She now lives in North Carolina with her husband and owns Open Book Communications, a micro-business which provides research services, distributes selected published fiction and publishes the “Caring for a Distant Parent” series.

To keep her own life in balance, Ms. Coan is an avid reader and crochets care shawls for her church ministry
